Marching in the Dark in aanmerking voor de 97e Academy Awards

LOS ANGELES - De debuutdocumentaire Marching in the Dark van Kinshuk Surjan wordt overwogen in de categorie Best Documentary Feature voor de 97e Academy Awards volgend jaar.

De documentaire werpt een licht op het hoge zelfmoordcijfer onder boeren op het Indiase platteland en heeft als onderwerp een groep boerinnen die onlangs hun echtgenoten verloren en besloten een plaatselijke psycholoog en activist te ontmoeten om hun verhalen en problemen te delen en anderen te helpen in hun verdriet. In deze daad van stille rebellie tegen een patriarchale samenleving vindt de 28-jarige in zichzelf gekeerde Sanjeevani de moed om zelfredzaam te zijn.

Na al verschillende prijzen en nominaties te hebben ontvangen op filmfestivals in Europa en in Kinshuk's geboorteland India, komt Marching in the Dark nu ook in aanmerking voor de 97e Academy Awards in de categorie Best Documentary Feature.

De shortlist van 15 films wordt bekendgemaakt op dinsdag 17 december 2024.
