An estimated five million elderly parents in Mexico have been separated for decades from their undocumented children living in the U.S. due to strict border policies, with little hope of reunion.
The Little White Heads program offers these aging and often lonely parents a rare chance: to reunite with their children on U.S. soil after years of forced separation. This documentary follows Bernardina, an 86-year-old indigenous woman, as she embarks on an emotional journey to see her son Max, now 63, for the first time in 35 years.
While she dreams of bringing him home, Max faces an impossible choice: return to Mexico and risk never seeing his children again, or remain in the U.S. and possibly never see his mother before it’s too late. Set against the backdrop of increasing hostility toward migrants in Trump’s America, The Little White Head explores love, sacrifice, and the price of reunion after decades of separation.
