Bart Demyttenaere was born in Congo (Kalemie, July 20, 1963). He spent his childhood in Beringen, Belgium. After his teacher training, he returned to his native country, where he taught for several years in Bunia and Lubumbashi. He finished his teacher career in Zonhoven.
