Pieter Stockmans is a Belgian journalist.

For MO* he follows the foreign policy of the European Union. He also follows developments in Eastern Europe and the region to the east of the EU. As a freelance journalist, he has been travelling in North Africa and the Middle East for ten years, looking for the expectations and fears behind the conflicts. He is co-author of the book The Jihadkaravaan.

He has published articles in MO* Magazine, Knack, De Standaard, Middle East Eye and Al Jazeera English. He has conducted field research on the Israeli occupation of Palestine, the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, radicalisation and terrorism. He has been with Syrian refugees in Syria's neighbouring countries and on their way to Europe, the Kurds in Syria and Iraq, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Islamists and jihadists in Jordan and Tunisia.

Pieter holds a law degree and a degree in international relations from KULeuven. He then completed a postgraduate course in international investigative journalism in Mechelen.
