BRUSSELS - The next deadline for submitting a project is 10 September 2021. Articles in daily and weekly newspapers, online longreads, podcasts, documentaries, ... The Fund supports in-depth and investigative journalism in all its forms.

Both starters and experienced journalists can apply for a grant. These are projects that have great newsworthiness and depth, and are at the same time original, innovative and time-consuming, and which would not come about without financial support. All information on how to apply for a work grant can be found on this website. There is €50,000 to be distributed in this round.

A scholarship from the Pascal Decroos Fund supports the research part of the journalism project. Read the guidelines for more information. 

There is a new application website: journalists who already applied in the past need to create a new account.

European investigative journalism still substandard

A study on European investigative journalism focusing on fraud with EU money is being prepared for publication. The study, ‘Deterrence of fraud with EU funds through investigative journalism’, will be presented in the European Parliament in early October and promises to be an interesting read for anyone involved in investigative journalism in the EU. On Wednesday 19 October, four European journalists were awarded the European Parliament Prize for Journalism 2011. This prize is for having contributed to developing, “a greater understanding of the EU”.

In Memoriam: Guido Convents (1956-2025)

LEUVEN - The world of film history has lost one of its most dedicated and pioneering scholars with the passing of Guido Convents on September 11, 2025. A Belgian historian and anthropologist whose work illuminated corners of cinema history too often left in shadow, Convents devoted his life to documenting and preserving the film heritage of Africa, with particular emphasis on the colonial and post-colonial experiences of Portuguese-speaking nations and the former Belgian territories.
