Duurzaam landgebruik: Gebruiksaanwijzing voor een drukbevolkte planeet

CAMBRIDGE/LOUVAIN-LA-NEUVE - How do we use the available land in our own region, and what impact does that have elsewhere? That question is crucial for our food supply, poverty reduction, nature conservation, and the fight against climate change. Unfortunately, there are many misconceptions about land use.

In 2022, land system scientist and geographer Patrick Meyfroidt of the Université Catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve, together with an international group of colleagues from six continents, drew up a list of aspects of sustainable land use that are often overlooked.

A workshop in Cambridge brought the researchers back together to make concrete recommendations for policymakers. Science journalist Tim Vernimmen attended the workshop and distilled seven key insights from the discussions and in-depth interviews.
