BRUSSELS - Mythical as a dragon, but also real; people have become attached to an image of what might have been a dinosaur. A team of researchers set out to find the definitive evidence of what caused the end of the dinosaur era. One fine line in the rock bed contains knowledge down to the minute, from that fateful day, 66 million years ago.
The last days of the dinosaur appeal to the imagination. After a meteor impact, the entire planet was shrouded in dust, leaving no ray of sunlight to reach Earth. The day the sunlight stopped shining focuses on the end of the dinosaur era. Hard science is complemented by a sense of longing, humor, absurdity and melancholy.
This documentary questions where man's eternal fascination with the dinosaur comes from and reflects on the unrequited love between man and primal animal. The day the sunlight stopped shining is a collaboration between researcher Cem Berk Şenel of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and directors Maria and Frederik Stuut.
