Dr. Johana Kotišová is a researcher at the University of Amsterdam and a visiting professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the VUB.

She has a background in journalism, anthropology and sociology. Her first book Crisis Reporters, Emotions, and Technology: An Ethnography - a combination novel and research monograph - focuses on work-related emotions (and cynicism) and mental well-being of crisis reporters. Her research interests include crisis and conflict reporting, journalists' emotional labor, applied research and creative research methods.

Johana's occasional practical involvement in journalism includes reviewing fiction and nonfiction books and writing essays.
