Julien Deroy is an agricultural engineer and development specialist.

Together with his Haitian colleagues, he founded the agricultural cooperative AGRIBEL and the adult education centre ETAGE. Julien has worked in his homeland Haiti for more than 20 years and is now preparing a PhD at the University of Liège. He lives in Belgium with his family and travels back and forth to his homeland. His opinion pieces on Haiti highlight the roots of Haiti's descent into hell, which he believes is partly explained by inequality, the predatory and corrupt behaviour of the political and economic elites and the support they receive from theinternational community.
