ISLAMABAD - Pakistan is not so much a country with an army, but rather an army with a country. Like the black kite, a powerful bird of prey, the armed forces keep a close eye on the people of Pakistan.
The country, a nuclear power with a population of 260 million, is currently experiencing its darkest days since its inception. Terrorist groups are reigning supreme, queues at food distributions are getting longer, and the climate crisis is making itself felt harder every year. Faith in politics has completely evaporated; the winner of elections and champion of the people remains in jail on army orders. The military rulers seem unable or unwilling to face the many challenges.
Willem De Maeseneer and Robbe Vandegehuchte travelled the country to explore how Pakistanis deal with the constant threat hanging in the air.
